Tutor Biography

Naomi E. Chayen is Professor of Biomedical Sciences at Imperial College London, Visiting Professor at Harvard Medical School and the President of the International Organisation for Biological Crystallization (IOBCr). She specializes in the crystallization of biological macromolecules in particular, development of experimental methodology (including high-throughput methods) for producing high quality crystals of medical and industrial interest. Another aspect of her research involves crystallisation in microgravity. As well as contributing to fundamental knowledge of the crystallization process, she has developed many unique practical methods, adopted by crystal growth laboratories worldwide. Several of her methods have been patented and commercialized. Naomi organises and chairs crystallization sessions at international conferences and courses, she is a Crystallization Co-Editor of Acta Crystallographica D and has recently edited a book “Protein Crystallization Strategies for Structural Genomics” published by International University Line in August 2007.
