Christer Ericsson, PhD, was awarded the Florman award from the Royal Swedish Academy of Sciences for his thesis in molecular genetics from the Karolinska Institute. He went on to receive an EMBO postdoctoral scholarship for studies at the Salk Institute, San Diego, California. He was awarded an assistant professor position at the Karolinska Institutet, Stockholm, Sweden. He has been a visiting scientist at the University of California at Irvine, and at the State University of New York at Buffalo. He is the Chief Scientific Officer (CSO) and chairman of the board of Liquid Biopsy.

Circulating tumor cells (CTC) are cancer cells from solid tumors that are found in the peripheral blood. Some may seed metastases. They provide a new opportunity to estimate prognosis, predict treatment and to follow the efficacy of the treatment.
