This market report summarizes the results of HTStec’s third industry–wide global web-based benchmarking survey on GPCR screening and profiling carried out in July 2008. The main objectives were to better understand recent changes in GPCR assay metrics, document current practices and technology preferences for GPCR primary screening and compound profiling and understand future user requirements. The aim was to compile a reference document which could be directly compared relative to the 2006 report.

The survey looked at in house and outsourced GPCR primary screening and compound profiling today (2008) and predicted (2010). The subjects investigated included the proportion of GPCR screens that are cell-based and orphan receptors; use of different methods for assaying activation; preferred assay readout technology and supplier; number of GPCR primary screens and compound profiling screens, number of receptor screened and profiled, number of wells per screen and profile.; decision making criteria in selecting an outsourced assay service, budgets and budget breakdown.
