Jean-Christophe Monbaliu's Biography

Jean-Christophe Monbaliu, Lecturer, University of Liege

ean-Christophe M. Monbaliu was born and grew up in Brussels. He received his undergraduate education at the Université catholique de Louvain (, Belgium, where he undertook PhD studies under the direction of Prof. J. Marchand-Brynaert. In 2008, he moved to Prof. Christian V. Stevens’ laboratory at Ghent University (, where he was later appointed as a postdoctoral fellow of the Research Foundation-Flanders ( In 2010, a Belgian American Educational Foundation fellowship ( triggered his relocation to the USA. He joined Prof. Alan Katritzky’s Center for Heterocyclic Compounds at the University of Florida ( in Gainesville, FL. In 2012, he was appointed at the Massachusetts Institute of Technology ( in Cambridge, MA where he worked with Prof. Klavs Jensen. In 2013, he came back to Belgium and settled at the University of Liege. He created the Center for integrated Technology and Organic Synthesis, where his research program revolves around the development of new methods in organic synthesis through the use of enabling technologies, such as continuous flow reactors.
