Richard Kuo, Head, Compound Management, Novartis Institute for Biomedical Research

Dr. Kuo currently heads the Compound Management group for the Novartis Institutes for Biomedical Research at the Emeryville, CA campus. The group is responsible for maintaining and distributing the Novartis compound collection to the global Novartis research community. Dr. Kuo graduated from Johns Hopkins University in 1990 with a B.A. in Biophysics. In 1994, he began a joint degree program with the Stanford Medical School and Stanford School of Law, completing his studies in 2001. After finishing his undergraduate work, he worked at Molecular Devices for a number of years developing assays around LAPS (light addressable potentiometric sensor) instrumentation. Following his graduate studies, Dr. Kuo was a founding member of Aegen Biosciences, a start-up company focused on developing MEMS (micro-electrical mechanical systems) platforms to replace traditional ADME-Tox assays. He then joined Chiron Corp. in 2004 before it was acquired by Novartis in 2006.
