Organ-on-a-Chip: Technologies and Applications

Held in conjunction with Organ-on-a-Chip World Congress 2019

14 Oct 2019, at 19:30-22:00 in Coronado Island, California

Price:

Course Venue: Marriott Coronado Island -- Coronado Room 4

Scope

This Training Course presented in tandem with the SelectBIO Organ-on-a-Chip World Congress 2019 provides an interactive presentation and discussion of the technology platforms, methodologies, as well as application areas in the exciting space that is created by the deployment of microfluidics and lab-on-a-chip technologies for creating "organs-on-chips" (or sometimes referred to as "body-on-a-chip").

Referred to as "Microscale systems", there are several classes of organs-on-chips which have been built including:

    Lung-on-a-Chip
    Liver-on-a-Chip
    Brain-on-a-Chip
    Gut-on-a-Chip
    Marrow-on-a-Chip
    Nerve-on-a-Chip
    Disease-on-a-Chip

Topics Addressed in this Training Course

Overview of the Opportunity:  Why would Microscale Systems ("Organs-on-Chips") be Useful for Drug Development?

Physiologically-based Pharmacokinetic/Pharmacodynamic Models as a Guide to Develop Model Systems (Microphysiological Systems)

Brief Overview of Microfluidics

Organ-on-a-Chip Systems: Concepts, Uses and Limitations plus Examples

Body-on-a-Chip (or Microphysiological Systems): Integrating Organs-on-a-Chip to build Surrogates for Drug Development

All Course Delegates Receive the Electronic Copies of the Presentations Plus Publications and Up-to-Date Reviews on this Field to Bring Back and Use as Reference Material for R&D Planning/Presentations, Business Plans and Investor Presentations. This course includes a networking reception for all delegates at the end of the course, and offers excellent discussion opportunities whereby delegates can explores the science as well as market opportunities in the organ-on-a-chip field.

The course tutor is Professor Mike Shuler, Samuel B. Eckert Professor of Engineering, Cornell University, President & CEO, Hesperos, Inc.
